Special installation for the UNIQLO GINZA store, renewed and reopened on September 2021.The installation named “hitobito iroiro” (meaning “diversity” in Japanese), vividly depicts the rich color variations found in UNIQLO’s concept LifeWear, as well as the joys and pleasures of wearing clothes you love.
The installation is composed of 9,000 woman's silhouettes in 100 different shades of colors, regularly aligned in three dimensional grids, filling the glass tank. Each silhouette is a combination of 3 colors, one for the upper body, one for the lower body and one for the bag, forming innumerable patterns and expressing diversity. A girl, a cat and an angel are lost inside, adding playfulness to the installation.
“The work expresses both the colors of clothes and the colors of the heart. What I am today, what I will be tomorrow. The colors of my mind change every day. It is fun. In the world there are various people, there are various minds. People are all different both on the outside (appearance) and on the inside (heart). Diversity within myself, diversity within the world. To put it in one word, diversity is beautiful. This is the message I wanted to express in this work.”
