HERBIS PLAZA 1F
Osaka (Japan)
100 colors no.49 “100 colors Falls” returned with a new spatial composition for Christmas 2023 at the Organ Square of HERBIS PLAZA in Umeda, Osaka.
Installed inside the building, the work forms a cascading waterfall of one hundred colors—mystical and powerful, as if time had momentarily stopped and color itself were flowing downward. Visitors are invited to walk into the falls, bathing in color and experiencing a moment of quiet purification for both body and mind.
The installation is composed of 1,250 slender vertical strands, each made from specially produced masking tape in Emmanuelle Moureaux’s original 100-color palette. Measuring approximately 10 meters in length and only 15 millimeters in width, the strands are fixed at both the top and bottom, precisely aligned and layered in space. This dense arrangement of fine lines creates a three-dimensional moiré effect, evoking the continuous motion and depth of a flowing waterfall.
Hidden within the vibrant cascade is a subtle surprise: a pure white tree, formed from delicate white lines. From the front, its silhouette appears clearly, but as visitors move around the installation, the tree gradually transforms, revealing shifting shapes and perspectives. This quiet contrast between white and color adds a moment of discovery and wonder within the immersive environment.
Rising within the solid architecture of the building, “100 colors Falls” transforms the space from within, offering visitors a luminous and joyful Christmas experience shaped by the rhythm and flow of color.
